Areas of expertise

I specialise in radio and new media, and particularly in facilitating the use of online communications for community empowerment and development.  I work mainly freelance, in a wide range of roles, including as a project leader, trainer, producer, researcher, journalist and writer.
   


Career history - media work

2001-currently ~ Trainer
Women's Radio Group
Designing and delivering short radio production training courses, mainly for women, including at the Panjabi Centre in Southall.  Topics: interviewing, using portable recorders, digital editing and making short radio programmes, plus using computers and the internet as part of the skills needed for radio production.

January 2006-currently ~ Initiator/Project Leader
Freelance for London Link Radio 
Editorial management, radio production, website management and fundraising for various online and community radio projects:

~ London Literature Online, set up in 2007

I design and manage websites, mainly html-based, for various clients (please click here for some examples).  I also set up and maintain the social networking sites for radio and community organisations including Women's Radio Group.

Radio: Features for BBC Network Radio and World Service programmes including Kaleidoscope, Breakaway, Outlook, Meridian, plus various community radio stations.

Carrying out information research/market analysis for a collaborative project to develop large-scale digital archive solutions, in which the BBC is a partner.

Women's Radio Group
Project management, training, website and audio production for the Desi Radio Eco Team project, which I set up in partnership with Global Action Plan and The Panjabi Centre.

2005 ~ Project Co-ordinator/Producer
Hillwood Resource Centre (Age Concern Camden)
Recording, editing and project managing the collection of reminiscences, and the production of a CD and booklet, as part of a project for the celebration of the 60th anniversary of VE Day.

Website design and management, recording and CD production, publicity and marketing support for this Camden-based community arts organisation.

April-June 2003 ~ Trainer
Slough Young People's Centre
Training young migrants in radio production and producing a radio programme, Radio Roma, for the short-term radio station Radio Underdog.

Managing trainees to produce a weekly arts magazine programme, Expression!, for broadcast on Sound Radio community radio station in Hackney, East London.

Writing two handbooks on promoting diversity in the media for the ON LINE/More Colour in the Media transnational project based in Utrecht, Holland

Researching arts broadcasting in London and producing the Directory of Arts Broadcasting for London, which provided information and support for artists and arts groups when contacting the media.

Interests
